Prof N. Okubadejo

Njideka U. Okubadejo is a Professor of Neurology at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos (since 2012), and an Honorary Consultant Neurologist to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi Araba, Lagos State, Nigeria (since 2003). Her academic and research career started in 2001 enabling her to garner considerable experience in the field of neurology (communicable and non-communicable diseases, particularly those associated with a significant burden in sub-Saharan Africa, with more than 100 peer-reviewed publications addressing various aspects of neurology in Africa.

She is also principal investigator of the Parkinson Disease (PD) diversity study in Africa, funded by the Michael J Fox Foundation to conduct the first GWAS on PD in Africa as well as PI of the multisite international clinical trial (Parkinson’s Progression Markers Initiative) (also funded by the MJFF). She is a 2019 recipient of the TETFUND NRF grant to investigate gene-environment interactions in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. She is lead site investigator on 2 international stroke clinical trials (TRIDENT and INTERACT3 funded by the George Institute). Prof. Okubadejo has extensive experience with research ethics, research ethics administration, international collaborative research, mentorship, and responsible conduct of research.
