Dr. Opeyemi Akinajo

Opeyemi Akinajo is an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with over 12 years of medical practice. She is a Consultant in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, specializing in Maternal and Fetal Medicine at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital. She is highly competent in Gynaecological and Obstetrics surgeries with great interest in minimal access surgery and ultrasonography in both Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

She holds a first medical degree (MB.Ch. B) from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State. She is presently a doctoral student at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden, and a doctoral student with the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp (ITM) affiliation. Her research interest is in the Implementation science of a new intervention in Nigeria amongst pregnant women in Kano and Lagos States, respectively.

She is also a co-Investigator on several research projects in maternal health, including the Implementation research for intravenous iron use in pregnant and postpartum Nigerian women (IVON-IS), Maternal and Perinatal Database for Quality, Equity, and Dignity (MPD-4-QED) – Nigeria, amongst others.

Professionally, she is a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) and the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (FMCOG). And she is a member of several professional bodies in and out of Nigeria.
