Dr Ifeoma Udenze
Ifeoma Udenze is currently Associate Professor of Chemical Pathology at the College of Medicine of the University of Lagos, Lagos, Nigeria. Her undergraduate education was at the University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria where she had her MBBS degree. She had her residency training program in Chemical Pathology and Laboratory medicine at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital. She has a Master’s degree in Biochemistry from the College of Medicine, University of Lagos and is currently running a Ph.D. program in Cell and molecular biology also in University of Lagos.
She currently heads the laboratory of the Centre for Clinical Trials Research and implementation Science (CCTRIS) Laboratory which she set up in 2022 to cater for the laboratory needs of CCTRIS and researchers in the University of Lagos. She leads the lab towards the attainment of the ISO 15189 accreditation for clinical laboratories.
Her area of research interest is the non-communicable disease space where she has focused on cardio-metabolic diseases, their pathophysiology and strategies for risk reduction. She has contributed to the characterization of the metabolic syndrome and identified risk factor predominance in Lagos state.
She has also researched the role of inflammation in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes and its cardiovascular complications.
Her current research is on the best way to identify familial hypercholesterolemia, a cause of premature cardiovascular disease, in the Nigerian population and effective therapeutic interventions in this population.
