LOCATION: Idi-Araba Lagos
The Centre for Clinical Trials, Research and Implementation Science (CCTRIS) is seeking a Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow to oversee and manage the conduct of research on the Lagos Verbal Autopsy and Social Autopsy (LVASA) project. The candidate will be based in Lagos and must have experience in conducting maternal health-focused research; he or she must have also carried out research of their own. The contract is for 2 years in the first instance with the possibility of extension depending on performance. The candidate must also be willing to travel.
MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILTIES:
- Take responsibility for the day-to-day management of research under the leadership of the Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI).
- Develop protocol to conduct research including quantitative and qualitative research.
- Working with the Co-PI in management and conduct of research on the LVASA project and to provide backup support as needed. The Research Fellow will be responsible for the entire study and ensuring all aspects are executed according to the project timelines.
- To plan, prioritise and organise own workload, in collaboration with the Co-PI to ensure that the agreed research schedule is followed as closely as possible and that agreed outputs and publications are delivered on time and to an appropriate standard.
- Supporting the project team with the setup and different implementation phases of the project to ensure conformance to the work plan and standards.
- Assisting in the proper organization of proposals and analysis of data emanating from the project.
- To communicate effectively with project staff, CCTRIS staff, wider College of Medicine staff, as required and within wider networks internally and externally.
- Ensuring project compliance with relevant regulatory bodies. The Research Fellow must be conversant with the various charters and meeting plans with the various committees and ensure all timelines are met.
- To build and maintain effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including colleagues, relevant public sector/community organisations and other key stakeholders, sharing information and acting as ambassadors to raise the profile of the project at formal public events and through informal and formal networks.
- Supporting submissions of all proposals, budget reports and other ancillary materials emanating from the implementation of the project.
- Managing various logistics associated with meetings, training and travel conferences including e-meetings involved in the implementation.
- Working with the Co-PI and Research Management Office on an ongoing basis to compile information regarding study progress to provide projections for additional grant funds.
- To plan, prioritize and organize their own workload, in collaboration with the Co-PI, to ensure that the agreed-upon research schedule is followed as closely as possible and that agreed outputs and publications are delivered on time and to an appropriate standard.
- To disseminate the findings and outputs of relevant research projects through conferences, learned societies, professional and industrial associations, and to liaise with other stakeholders following the guidance and agreement of the Co-PI.
- To be keen on continuing professional development while contributing to capacity building across the project team.
- Providing assistance during the closeout process after project completion to ensure funding compliance.
- Perform other various duties as assigned by the Co-PI.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Qualifications:
- An MBBS degree holder plus an additional master’s in public health (MPH) degree.
OR
- BSc in a health science or related science discipline plus MSc in Public health, MPH or related discipline. (Essential)
- In addition to the entry qualifications, a completed online CITI course, which is a mandatory ethical compliance course is required. (Essential)
- You will also be required to complete a project management course online if you do not have a recent one but meet all other criteria.
Skills:
- Previous experience of research on funded projects. (Essential)
- Previous publication(s) in peer-reviewed journal(s) on a maternal and/or newborn health topic in which you played a significant role. (Essential)
- Use of data analysis software will be required. (Essential)
- Excellent verbal and written communication. (Essential)
- Advanced skills in the use of Microsoft Office suite especially Word, Excel and Power Point. (Essential)
- Organised and able to meet deadlines. (Essential)
- Certification in project management and basic accounting will be an advantage.
- Previous experience with clinical trials will be an advantage.
- Knowledge of implementation science will be an advantage.
PERFORMANCE GOALS:
- Ensure the Co-PI and all stakeholders are kept abreast of timelines and research plans for timely implementation of each activity according to schedule.
- Initiate reminders and coordinate all activities of partners and generate periodic reports.
- Complete all tasks on time.
